Get Your CAPE On 3.0

This past weekend saw costumes, comic books and celebrities, as the third iteration of CAPE – Cornwall and Area Pop Expo, came to town. There was something for all, as crowds surfed through a plethora of booths, looking for their favourite vintage video games, that elusive comic book, kooky new board games, or a certain desirable trading card.

Likewise, cosplayers, both new and old, littered the floor. The always entertaining Dr. Stevil was even making his way around the venue on roller-skates – perhaps with a new maniacal plan to take over the world.

Invited back by local television station TV Cogeco as the host for this year’s special, I transported viewers through the convention, bringing them face to face with the celebrities who made the trek to Cornwall. Over the next several weeks, I will take you inside the world of Gilmore Girls, as both Yanic Truesdale (the snarky, stoic faced French concierge Michel Gerard) and Sean Gunn (quirky, odd-ball villager Kirk Gleason) attended CAPE. Gunn (photo above) also talked Guardians of the Galaxy and its sequel, as he plays both Kraglin (the right hand man of Yondu – head of the Ravagers, as well as the on-set Rocket) in the gargantuan, well loved features.

Michael Copon also attended. Getting his start as the Blue Ranger on Power Rangers Time Force, he has gone on to play Felix Taggaro on One Tree Hill, as well as star in the sequel to The Scorpion King, The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior.

On The Walking Dead front, Kimberly Leemans graced the event. An up and comer in the business, she got her start on America’s Next Top Model, and plays an important role in the first Hilltop episode, “Knots Untie”. Still meandering around the universe, we will have to wait and see if her character will reappear in the future.

Finally, I also spoke to voice actor extraordinaire John Stocker. For anyone growing up in the 1980s and 90s, Stocker voiced characters in shows like Care Bears, Sailor Moon, Babar, The Adventures of Tintin, The Super Mario Bros. Show! and so much more. I’d like to thank each of the actors for giving me their precious time, taking us inside the characters they have made famous. Make sure to check back over the next few months to see each of their respective Star Picks and interviews.
