Worth a Repeat

I spoke to character actor Ron Perlman recently at the 2015 edition of Montreal Comiccon.  The three day event was more than intriguing, with excellent vendors that sold everything from vintage movie posters and collectable comic books, to exquisite snacks and signed memorabilia.  There truly was something for everyone.  It was the first time that I made the trek to Montreal (having previously visited Ottawa’s version twice) and was impressed by the scope of the festivities.  Plus, the team that organizes the event did an excellent job of bringing in celebrities that were more than hospitable to their countless fans.

This brings us back to Perlman, who I chatted with for several minutes on the closing day of the event.  The veteran performer, who has been in motion pictures and television for more than thirty-five years, shot to fame in the late eighties with the show Beauty and the Beast. He has not stopped since, taking on numerous memorable roles in series such as Sons of Anarchy and Hand of God as well as in films like Hellboy, Drive and Pacific Rim, to name but a few. He has worked with horror maestro Guillermo del Toro an impressive six times – calling the director an absolute genius.

When I turned the conversation to his favourite film, it literally took him a millisecond to answer the question that has stalled a number of celebrities before him – calling The Godfather the ‘best film ever made’ and his top flick. He spoke of the beautiful direction by Coppola and the unbelievable performances by the actors, highlighting Marlon Brando’s earthshattering Oscar performance.

From time to time, I have interviewed celebrities whose top picks are the same. As you have probably noticed, my previous Star Pick with Tony D, the lead guitarist from the blues band MonkeyJunk, also listed The Godfather as one of his favourite films. As I had a lengthy video interview with the musician, I decided to lead with him and then have this as a follow up. Please check out this link if you would like to read the review of The Godfather featuring Tony D: http://filmizon.com/movie_reviews/a-movie-you-couldnt-refuse/. From now on, this is how I will deal with two celebrities choosing the same motion picture. If any of you have a better suggestion, please feel free to comment below to pass along your ideas.
