Catch a Rising Star

Cornwall’s second most famous actor, Tyler Murree, is proud to hold that title, following behind some guy by the name of Ryan Gosling. Recently, he spoke of his childhood dream that one day he would be able to watch one of his films on the big screen at the historic Port Theatre in his hometown of Cornwall, Ontario. An actor of the stage and small screen, Murree has had a solid career in the two realms. The man has graced the stage as part of both large Toronto productions and glorious Broadway ensembles. He took on roles in Les Misérables; The Lord of the Rings: The Musical; Dirty Dancing; The Lion King, and other such productions. Placing him in front of hundreds of thousands of people across North America, the performer has created unique characters in the truest form of acting.

Similarly, Murree has dabbled in the world of television. He has had parts on quality BBC productions in Orphan Black and Copper, while also popping in on Canadian productions such as Murdoch Mysteries and Kim’s Convenience, as well as taking on roles in several Nickelodeon series, including Make It Pop and The Other Kingdom, to name but two.

To return the conversation back to the Port Theatre, Murree finally saw his dream come to fruition (on November 18th, 2016) when he procured his first silver screen performance found in the Canadian independent film Generation Wolf. Bringing the director/star of the motion picture, Christian de la Cortina, and composer Martin Macek along for the special screening, Murree introduced the motion picture to the packed and eager audience. The Cornwall actor has a meaty role in the film, playing the main antagonist. It is the type of performance that should be a breakout role for the actor.

Following the screening, we chatted all things television and film. Discussing Orphan Black, Generation Wolf, as well as his self-professed obsession with Batman, the interview demonstrates the man’s passion for acting, as well as his amazing talent at mimicry. For ardent film fans, you will hear his sharp impersonations of Christopher Walken, Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne/Batman, Sean Connery, Tom Hardy’s Bane, as well as an amazing facial expression of Michael Keaton. To conclude the conversation, I asked him about his favourite film. The actor revealed that Frank Darabont’s classic 1994 prison drama Shawshank Redemption would land at the top of his list. Make sure to view the video directly below to hear his thoughts on all of the above mentioned topics. As I’ve already reviewed Shawshank Redemption as part of a previous Star Pick with Swedish director Marcus Ovnell, click on the link to hear my thoughts on the film, while also discovering why the European filmmaker dug the same movie: http://filmizon.com/movie_reviews/get-busy-living/ It was also hockey icon Dale Hawerchuk’s top pick; click on this link to hear about why the former Winnipeg Jets’ star loved the flick: http://filmizon.com/movie_reviews/taking-a-drive-with-hawerchuk/ I’d like to give a big thanks to Murree for taking the time to talk to me – especially since he had so many family members and guests who were excited to congratulate him. Here’s hoping that his first big break in film will lead to his inclusion in the next generation of much lauded actors.
